How it's made
Every hide goes through six stages at our tannery in Korangi, and is checked at each one before it moves on.
Salted hides and skins, a by-product of the meat industry, are sorted by weight, size and visible marks.
Checked: weight, size, curing, marks
Soaking washes out the salt, liming loosens the hair, and fleshing clears the underside to leave a clean pelt.
Checked: hair removal, pelt thickness, pH
Chrome, chrome-free, metal-free or vegetable tanning makes the hide stable. It's then split and shaved to thickness.
Checked: shrinkage temperature, thickness
Retanning, dyeing and fatliquoring give the leather its colour, body and softness before it's dried.
Checked: shade against your master, softness
Finishes are sprayed, rolled or pressed on. This is where embossed, patent, milled and smooth articles take shape.
Checked: rub fastness, adhesion, flex
Each hide is measured in square feet, graded on usable area, tagged with its lot number and packed.
Checked: area, grade, lot number

Why Khaskins
Khaskins is part of Khas Group, a family leather business. Our tannery in Korangi Industrial Area takes hides and skins from raw to finished leather in-house, so selection, colour and finish stay in our hands at every stage.
Leather Working Group Gold ratingAudited from raw hide to finished leather. Certified since November 2022, URN KHA104.
Soaking, tanning, retanning, dyeing and finishing all happen at our own tannery in Korangi.
Production is checked against the master sample you approved before it ships, for shade, feel and thickness.
Tell us the test methods your brand specifies. Test reports can travel with each shipment.
Standard ISO and IULTCS methods, so your lab and ours read the same numbers.
| Test | Method | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile strength | ISO 3376 | The load the leather takes before it breaks, and how far it stretches first |
| Tear load | ISO 3377-1 | Resistance to tearing at stitch holes and cut edges |
| Rub fastness | ISO 11640 | Whether colour transfers when the surface is rubbed, dry and wet |
| Flex resistance | ISO 5402-1 | How the finish holds up to repeated bending, as in a shoe vamp |
| Softness | ISO 17235 | Softness as a reading in mm, so "soft" means the same thing to both of us |
| Chromium VI | ISO 17075 | Hexavalent chromium content, checked against the 3 mg/kg REACH limit |
